The path keepers scheme in North Yorkshire is a community volunteer programme where local groups, like the North Yorkshire TRF, assist the local Council in looking after public footpaths and rights of way.
We work semi-independently to carry out practical tasks such as repairing gates, clearing litter and fly-tipping, cutting back overgrown vegetation and fallen trees, and improving drainage to keep paths safe and accessible.
By contributing significant volunteer hours to maintaining the network, we significantly support the council’s formal maintenance efforts.
Volunteers from the North Yorkshire group regularly support maintenance work on the byway at Glaisdale Rigg, helping to preserve this exposed and well-used route for the future.
Twice a year, volunteers from the North Yorkshire group of the Trail Riders Fellowship carry out essential maintenance on this key byway.
